Gas to Liquid (GtL) February 17, 2008

The new Shell campaign in German television mentioned about “Gas to Liquid”. What is that? Gas to Liquid or GtL is a process to produce a liquid fuel synthetically from synthetic gas (Carbon monoxide CO2 & Hydrogen H2). The process called Fischer-Tropsch Synthesis. This process was founded by a German scientist Franz Fischer and his assistant Hans Tropsch in 1925. This process was historical in World War II an enormous important process to supply need of liquid fuel in Germany. The process based on the chemical reaction of CO2 and H2 into hydrocarbon describes by following chemical equation:
| n CO + 2n H2 → -(CH2)n- + n H20 |
The reaction runs catalytic with iron (Fe) or Cobalt (Co) by 20-40 bar pressure and 200ºC – 350ºC. The Hydrocarbon can be used to produce gasoline or diesel fuel. The advantage of this process is no formation of aromatic hydrocarbon; therefore the harmful substances of the fuel emission can be reduced by blending this product in gasoline and diesel fuel. The biggest Fischer-Tropsch plant can be found in South Africa and run by Sasol Ltd.

Today i celebrated chinese new year by having a dinner in Asia Dynasty chinese restaurant in Karlsruhe, Germany. I was very dissapointed, the taste was bad, the service was horrible, the place was ok. I also saw the running sushi there, it looked also as bad as the chinese food. This restaurant is not recommended. If you wanted to go to chinese restaurant in Karlsruhe, i can suggest you another restaurant which much better than this one. Just send me an Email and i will tell you the best one.

After 4 weeks since i came back to Germany i feel that i missed my time at home. Last holiday was a nice holiday with my family. We were together in Singapore and Malaysia, celebrated christmas and new year. I missed also the time with all my friends, going to clubbing, eating sushi, etc. It was also funny as my flat mate visited me in Indonesia during his trip around the world.
Till next time !!!
