It was a LEGENDARY Christmas time (Sorry, I’m a lil’ bit obsessed from TV serial “How I Met Your Mother”). After three days running celebration i was exhausted and couldn’t do anything more. On Christmas Eve we had a wonderful dinner with many korean dishes. We cooked Bul Go Gi, Daeji Bul Gogi (Korean Pork Belly), Mandu (Korean Dumplings), Dak Kang Jung (Korean sweet and Crispy Chicken Wings) and Bok Choy. It was successful and delicious, Daeji Bul Gogi and Dak Kang Jung were particularly loved. After having dinner we had an international Christmas eve Mass at KHG (Parish of Catholic University Students)-House. We sang “Indonesian” Silent Night at Mass. As always, after the mass we celebrated the birth of Jesus Christ together with a little feast, wine, punch, cookies, stollen, music, and conversation between us. We went home late at night, I think it was 2.30 am as i went to bed.

8 am in the morning, i was awake already, and went to KHG-House to prepare Indonesian Christmas Celebration at the night, Cooking, Decorating. The preparation took a long time ’til 3 pm. The celebration began at 4 pm with Indonesian Christmas Mass and followed with a dinner. I think, 30 – 40 people took a part on that celebration. After excellent Dinner, that we prepared this morning, there was an entertainment, games named Singing Bee, just like a TV programm in Germany. It was funny, but without audio equipment, it would be a disaster. The equipment was annoying because it took a long time to get those in active. And thank God, after many trial, we could use it and that night was nice. After games, we exchanged Christmas gift between us and at the end of the night Alex and Irene taught us how to do a ballroom dance, like Walz, Cha cha cha, Salsa, etc. I didn’t expect that many Indonesian liked to did this, because we did it until 1 am at the midnight. One more time we should get our home by our foot because there was no more tram available and that night was freezy. Before we went to bed, we got some hot tea and chatted a lil’ bit. I was in bed on 3 am.

This morning was good. I could sleep well and longer then morning before, but exactly on 12 pm at noon my phone rang all the time. All of my friend called me, asked for Lunch. It was many food left from the christmas eve dinner and christmas celebration yesterday. After Lunch we went ice skating, it was funny but cold. It closed our big Christmas Celebration.

It wasn’t a good Running. I could do better than this, although generally i ran faster than i ever did. I ran too fast at the beginning, then I didn’t have any energy for the rest of my run. It took 53 minutes and 54 seconds for 9,9 km.

1 Month has passed since I was in Rome, but our (Me and my Friends) Appetite for Italian food is still exist. Therefore we tried to make it by ourself yesterday night. It was successful, Spaghetti Ai Frutti di Mare tasted excellent and also the Bruschetta. We cooked just with fresh ingredients and satisfied with the result. We got 5 big full pan of them. Here I share my recipe for you.

Spaghetti Ai Frutti di Mare

For 3 persons

Ingredients:

• 500 gr Blue Mussels, clean it up – Kerang Hijau, cuci bersih
• 200 gr Calamari, slice it in Ring – Cumi-cumi, potong cincin
• 200 gr Shrimps – Udang
• 1 can Tomato Podomori – Tomat Kaleng
• 500 gr Spaghetti
• 1 bunch Parsley, chopped – Petersili, cincang
• 2 Garlic clove – Siung Bawang Putih
• Olive Oil “Extra Vergine” – Minyak Olive
• Salt and Pepper – Garam dan Lada

Directions:

1. Cook the Spaghetti like the Instruction on the package until “Al Dente”. Rebus Spaghetti sesuai petunjuk pada kemasan sampai matang “Al Dente”.
   
2. Preheat some Olive Oil in a big pan. Panaskan minyak olive secukupnya diatas wajan.
3. Fry the garlic until brown and put the tomato into the pan. Mix the parsley (put little bit by side for serving) with the tomato sauce, give salt and pepper and taste it. Tumis bawang putih sampai berubah warna lalu masukkan Tomat kaleng ke wajan. Masukkan petersili (sisakan sedikit untuk penyajian), garam dan lada lalu rasakan.
4. Put the Mussels, calamari and  shrimps into the pan, mixed well, cover it with a lid and wait until the seafood cooked (the mussels are opened). Masukkan kerang hijau, cumi-cumi, dan udang kedalam wajan, aduk rata lalu tutup dan tunggu sampai matang (kerang terbuka).
5. Mix well the cooked Spaghetti in the pan, give the rest of parsley on the top, and delicious “Spaghetti Ai Frutti di Mare” is ready to be served. Campur Spaghetti yang sudah matang ke dalam wajan, taburkan sisa petersili diatasnya dan “Spaghetti Ai Frutti di Mare” yang lezat siap disajikan.

Bruschetta

Ingredients:

• Ciabatta Bread – Roti Ciabatta
• Champignon, slice 1 cm – Jamur Champignon, iris 1 cm
  
• Mozarrella Chesse, chopped – Keju Mozarrella, Potong kotak
  
• Parsley, Basil, chopped – Petersili, Basilikum, cincang
• Tomato, chopped  – Tomat, cincang
• Olive Oil, Salt, Pepper – Minyak Olive, Garam, Lada

Directions:

1. Cut the bread for 3 cm, put it on a baking tray and bake it in the 200°C oven until brown. Potong roti setebal 3 cm, letakkan diatas papan ofen dan panggang pada suhu 200°C sampai kecoklatan
2. Mix the the half of mozarrella chesse and tomato with parsley and basil. Campur setengah dari keju mozarrella dengan tomat, petersili dan basilikum.
3. Take the bread from the oven, put the tomato-mozarrella chesse on top of the bread. For another variation, put the Champignon on the top of the bread, after that the Mozarrella chesse. Angkat roti dari ofen, taruh campuran tomat-mozarrella diatas roti. Untuk variasi lain, taruh jamur champignon diatas roti lalu taburi dengan keju mozarrella.
4. Give salt, pepper and olive oil to the bruschetta and put in the oven for another 10 minutes until the chesse melting. Bruschetta is ready to be served. Taburi garam, lada dan minyak olive lalu masukkan kembali ke dalam ofen selama 10 menit sampai keju mencair. Bruschetta siap disajikan.

It’s lil’ bit too late actually, but this occasion was something different and special. We spent our weekend together in a little village at the black forest. At night we made a fireplace and sang together, on Saturday we hiked through the grape plantation to a bigger village nearby. On the way we also picked the grape which hung on the plantation and took a photos for our funny story. Late at night we played together Wii, it was so funny to play the virtual sport. Also I had the opportunity to celebrate my Birthday, it was nice with indonesian food i made even though the chicken didn’t taste as good as i ever made. It was an interesting Weekend. It was a wonderful journey. I was very Impressed by the architecture, history and also the culinary of Rome. Rome was beautiful but chaotic city. We (I and three friend of mine) thank to our Lonely Planet, which teold us a lot of history about Rome, told the best way for transportation, sightseeing and recommended us the best place to have our meals.

1st Day – Arrival, Check in, Fontana di Trevi at Night

After about 1 hour flight from our Karlsruhe Baden Airpark we arrived at the Airport Rome Ciampino. Then we took a Bus from Airport to Anagnina subway station and get into the city with subway. It wasn’t difficult and cost just 2,20 € compared with the 6 € Bus, which take you to the city directly. It was also easy to find our Hostel, because it was near to the Termini central station. Our hostel was OK, not bad. After checked in we walked to the city to have dinner. Our first dinner was OK (Italian Pizza). We spent our 1st night at the famous Fountain in Rome, Fontana di Trevi. We also throwed a coin into the fountain like the other did, because the legend said, if we do it, we are ensured a return to Rome.

2nd Day – Vatican City, Trastevere

It was early in the morning as we woke up and went to the Vatican city. We planned to take part on the Audience with the pope at Piazza San Pietro. As we reached there at 8.50 am, there were already a lot of people but luckily we still got chair at the front side. I lost my Macgyver knife on the security check, shittt. After 1,5 hours waiting under hot sunshine Pope came out with his Popemobile. After waving to all of the audience, he sat on his holy chair, read the day’s Gospel and preached. Then we had our lunch at the Chinese Restaurant near the Vatican City, it was cheap and tasted good. After lunch we moved to the Vatican museum to see the history of the Vatican city, and the famous Michelangelo work “God Create Adam“, “The Last Judgement” at the top of Sistine Chapel. Then we visited the big Basilica di San Pietro. It was beautiful and huge. Unfortunately we couldn’t get to the top of the dome, we were too late, it was closed already as we came there. After a little break with an italian ice cream we walked to Trastevere (South of Vatican City) to have a night view of the City of Rome. Then we tried to take a dinner at a Ristorante, which was recommended by our lonely planet, unfortunately it was closed. But luckily we found another Pizzeria, which served a good italian food with a low price. We was so happy, because the italian food was so delicious, big portion and cheap. I recommend you to have meal there if you in Trastevere : Pizzeria Ivo (Via di San Francesco a Ripa 158, 06 5817082, Pizza 7 €)

3rd Day – Colosseo, Forro Romano, Piazza Venezia, Spanish Steps

In this morning we walked to the famous Colosseo. This Place was huge and spectacular, all the history we heard from the audioguide was interesting and i think, this is the place you must see. Outside the Colosseo you can make a photos with a funny person (with fee), who dressed like a roman soldier. One of us did it for 3 €. After make some photos we went to Palatine Hill, this is the place according to mythos, where Rome begin, where Romulus and Remus were find by the she-wolf and kept them live. This place was also Augustus residence, where he was born and lived. From this Palatine Hill, we could see the Circo Massimo, a huge hippodrom. Then walked to ancient Rome central city, Forro Romano, where we could find the ruins of center of ancient Roman civilization. It was impressed. Near to this place (Ancient Rome) it was difficult to find a good restaurant, luckily we found a resturant near Piazza Venezia, who offered a lunch menu with a low price. I recommend you to have a dinner or lunch here if you near the Piazza Venezia. Here came a lot of italian people from the office nearby and took a lunch. La Antica Birrenia Peroni (via S.Marcello 19). The lunch menu was just in Italian (no English), luckily, the nice waitress could speak a little bit English and we ordered really good italian food (Canneloni, Antipasti). They also have a good Tiramisu for 3,50 €. After lunch, we visited Monumento Nazionale a Vittorio Emanuele II, a big white memorial place for a big italian soldier. Then we went to Bocca della Verita, the famous mouth of truth, to put our hand in the mouth of sculpture. We planned also in this day to visit Church St. Clement and St. Giovanni in Laterano, but it was too late. Then we decided to go to the best Gelatteria in Rome and go to spanish steps. Palazzo del Freddo Giovanni Fassi (Via Principe Eugenio65 – 67/A, 00185 Roma, 06 4464740) offered the best Gellato in Rome. At night we spent our time in Spanish Steps (Piazza Spagna) for sitting and watching before we had our dinner. There we met a friend accidently, who studied in our city for 3 years ago. This time was our dinner irritating. The Food was OK, but the price was unexpected. The main thing was the Table fee, that cost 4,50 €. It was really annoying. It is really not recommended to eat there even a lot of tourist were there. The Restaurant is at Via Rosmini.

4th Day – Centro Storico

In this day striked the Metro’s (Subway) driver, so we had to make our tour just by foot and change our tourplan. We started our tour with visiting the Basilica di Santa Maria Maggiore, then went to Fontana di Trevi to see it on the daylight. It started to rain on our way to Pantheon, the 2000 years old famous temple with coffered, concrete dome. After we walked around the city to visit some sightseeing places like Chiesa del Gesu (Church of Jesuit Society), und Chiesa di Sant’Ignazio di Loyola (Church of St. Ignatius of Loyola),  and Campo di Fiori , we reached the famous square in Rome Piazza Navona, where artist, street musician, fortune-teller, and also pickpocket meet. There are a lot of Pubs, Ristorante, cafes, we had also our lunch there. After lunch we visited the Castel Sant’ Angelo and with local bus we reached the Basilica di San Clemente and Basilica di San Giovanni in Laterano, the second important Basillica in rome after Basillica di Sant Pietro. After all the visited sightseeing, it was time for looking some souvenir. My wish in Rome was tasting the best Spaghetti ai frutti di mare (Seafood spaghetti). With recommendation from my lonely planet and after long way walking to the end of Rome, where no tourist can be found with frightened enviroment, I found that Restaurant. The Restaurant was full with the local people and had the best seafood, also with low price. We ate a lot, because it tasted so good. Da Franco Ar Vicoletto (Via del Falisci 2, 06 4957675, 15 minutes east side from Termini Station by foot). I think, it was the highlight of my Rome Journey. We finished our day with an Ice Cream from Palazzo del Freddo Giovanni Fassi as a dessert.

5th Day – Caracalla thermae, Piazza della Republbica, Departure

This morning we packed our clothes then checked out from our hostel. With the rest of time that we had before we go to the airport, we visited the Roman public baths, Caracalla thermae. The last sightseeing we visited was Piazza della Republbica and the big church located on this square. Then for the last time we tasted another italian food near the Termini station and with stress we went to Ciampino Airport to go back to lovely germany.

Yesterday was a good day to run….

I did it……!!!!!! After 2 hours 9 minutes and 14 seconds Running I reached the finishline. It was a long way, and exhausted but i made it. It was my first half marathon for 21 km. I’m not happy with my performance, i could do better than that, i couldn’t reach my goal to get finished under 2 hours.  I must do better next time.

It was a long time since i wrote the last article in my Blog, I forgot account password for my Picassa web album, so i could’t upload photos. After 1 month without my own notebook, i’m really happy to be rebornwith my notebook and see the world again.

2 weeks ago I had 10 km race with some of friends from my dorm. We named our Team “3. Stock ABH Running Team”. It was exciting, cause it was my first 10 km race, that i never done it before. I was satisfied with my performance, i reached my target to finish it within 1 hour. I got to the finish within 58 minutes. For 80 kg not trained person like me it was a big success. We planned to take apart on half marathon running in the city where i live on september. I wish, i will be good enough within 2 months, i don’t think that i can make it, i will tell you then.

I think, it is for my schoolmate interesting. Last week i had “Temu Kolese”.

We found out that we have in common because of one demon name: “Baskoro Poedjinoegroho”. The person who stood besides me (second from right) was his friend at school. He said, Baskoro had always a vision to fight for a “freedom of school students”. I think Baskoro didn’t have this vision at all.

1st day – Jerusalem (The Old City)

We arrived Tel Aviv Airport yesterday night on 7 pm. We took a shuttle bus and went directly to our first destination Jerusalem. We were dropped out at Damascus Gate and take a walk to “Austrian Hospice”, this is our housing on Via Dolorosa and not so far from Damascus Gate, just 10 minutes by foot. At night some of us went out to bar, but i was so tired and went to bed.

In the morning we had a day impulse after breakfast before we started our journey through the holy city Jerusalem. We started our journey with visiting the western wall or Kotel, where the jews pray on the wall and then we went to the church of holy sepulchre, where the holy tomb of Jesus located. It was full of people and there was also a mess, so i couldn’t look into the holy tomb. We continued our tour to Mt. Zion outside the old city, where we can found the room of the last supper and the tomb of king David. After we queued for a quite long time we passed through the security check and got into the temple mount where is the famous dome of the rock located. It was a big and beautiful mosque. After took some picture we continued to the Mt. of Olives or Gethsemane garden, where Jesus for the last time prayed before he got arrested. The last destination was church “Dominus Flevit” (The Lord wept) and at night we had a mess in the church of St. Anna or bethesda pool.

 2nd Day – Jerusalem

We started today Journey to Mt. Scopus. Our first station was Auguste Viktoria Hospital, where the palestina refugees being treated. In the Hospita there is a church named Himmelfahrt church, which were build by a german on 1910. From the tower you have a nice view of Jerusalem, the west Jordan and also the wall, which separated west Jordan and Jerusalem. We met a german priest who told us a story about the church and also the political situation in Jerusalem. Then we went to hebrew university of Jerusalem, looked the Ampitheater, which has a nice view of desert of Jordan, and visited the synagoge in the university to find out how it look like. After long exhausting walk from university we came on the ultra Orthodoxe neighbourhood to look around how they are living. I was astounded how conservative they are. Our girl felt uncomfortable there, because the people there looked at them unfriendly due to their dress although they dressed like normal people : long jeans, long sleeve t-shirt, etc. I couldn’t understand of the religion rule of these people. After this uncomfortable moment we were in the traditional market to buy a lunch paket for tommorow. At night we met a priest who is living in Bethesda pool and working for a peace project. This pool was interesting because its connection with the story of bible. We had also a dialogue with him about political situation in the old city of Jerusalem. After all we had a delicious arabic dinner at the old city.

3rd day – Dead Sea

Early in the morning we went in direction of dead sea through the Judea desert, where nothing to see but sand. On the way there we made a stop at the place where the high level is the same of the sea level : 0 m. Because dead sea lies 400 m under sea level. I rode a camel named sushi. Our first stop was Qumran. Here is the place where the dead sea scroll were founded. The history about this scroll and about the Jews sect who lived here with their rules and rituals can you see here. Next destination was Masada. Here you can find a summit ruins on a sheer side plateau high above the dead sea. This ruins are accesible by a cable car, but i and some of friend went up there on foot. It took approx. 30 minutes to be there and 20 minutes to back down. Historically is this place so interesting, you can read here. From Masada we made our way to the shore of dead sea. It was awesome there, i floated at the sea without moving my body, high concentration of salt in water make it happened. At night we were so tired and finished our day with laughing at the lobby of the hospice. 

4th day – Yad Vashem, Chagall Window

Today we just visited Yad Vashem and looked at the 12 colorful windows of Marc Chagall. Yad Vashem is biggest memorial place of the Holocaust in Germany during World war II. There you can find the Hall of Name, where containing books of all those who perished during the holocaust. The windows of Marc Chagall could be find in the synangoge of Hadassah Hospital. This windows tell a story from Jewish bible. After this visiting we had a free time, I went to shop on the Mt. Zion and bought some souvenir. Then I planned to go to the church of holy sepulchre, but i couldn’t find the way to get there, damn, so i got back to the hospice. At night we had dialogue with Jews Rabbi who told us about jewish society and at the end of the day we had another delicious arabic dinner. 

5th day – Hebron

Hebron is a palestine autonomy territory with 200.000 Palestinian and 400 Jews, who are living there. This is the 2nd holiest city in Judaism, because there are tombs of the Patriarchs, more about this city you can read here. We visited this city because we wanted to visit the the family of the member our parish community who is studying in Karlsruhe. After Coffee at his home, his friends took us travel around the city. We visited first the tomb of patriarchs. This tomb is divided in two section : Jewish section and moslem section. First we visited the Jewish section, the Moslem is prohibited to come into this section and we had to passed through security check like in the airport. There is synagogue inside and some of tombs. Then we visited the Moslem section (Mosque). Here we must also passed through a security check. After visiting our guide’s shops and  russian church, where we can found Abraham’s oak. We went back to the family house and had a lunch. The family served us an arabic speciality named “Up Side Down”. It was spicy rice with grilled goat meat. On the way back home, we visited Hebron glass blew factory to buy souvenir and for dinner we had another “Up Side Down” but with chicken. 

6th day – Bethlehem

Early in the morning we checked out from the hospice and travelled with a public bus to Bethlehem. To get in this city we had to pass a big security checkpoint because Bethlehem is also another Palestinian territory. After we put our luggage in house of peace community “Sumud”, we visited caritas baby hospital of Bethlehem. We looked around the hospital and had a dialogue, which told us about history of the hospital and the health situation in Bethlehem. Then we had a presentation in Sumud House about the Wall, which built by Israelis to separate Israel and Palestine territory. After this Presentation we walked along beside the wall and visited the palestine refugee camp there. With the bus we went down town to visit the church of Milk Grotto and the Church of Nativity. On afternoon we had a meeting with the students from Arabic Education Institute (AEI). In this meeting i learned  a lot of thing about their strategy for realization of harmony living between moslem and christian in this city. After meeting we had a mess in chapel of the church of Nativity, this is an experience once in a life time. Then we met with our guest family and go to their house, every 2 of us in one family. The dinner was delicious: Zucchini with filling and a lot of arabic speciality. After dinner we watched TV together. 

7th day – Jericho, Tiberias

Breakfast at the guest parent was delicious. Arabic stone oven bread, salty cheese, etc. We continued our journey with bus towards Galilee. We made a stop in Jericho and visited the mount of temptation, where Jesus was tried by satan after made a fast for 40 days and night. Then we bought food and everything we need in Galilee, because in Galilee we have to prepare our meal by ourselves. Close before we got to our place where we lived, we visited also Tiberias, a city for holiday at the lake of Tiberias (Sea of Genesareth). Then we arrived Tabgha, a Benedictine monastery, place of the multiplication of the loaves and the fishes. We lived there during our visit in Galilee. It was a nice place with “swim drain”.

8th day – Galilee (Sea of Genesareth)

We had our breakfast outside near the “swim drain” because the weather was nice. We started our day with walk through the field in food towards mount of beatitudes, where Jesus made a homily for 5000 people. Some of us couldn’t enter the place church because they dressed too “sexy” and the “holy borders” is knee. We read a chapter of bible, Jesus Beatitudes (Mat 5-7). Then we went to Capernaum through the jungle of banana and herbs. Capernaum was the place where Jesus find the apostles and lived. After lunch was a pool and sunbath time. At night we had a mass at the waterside of Sea of Genesareth. 

9th day – Nazareth

Breakfast time was too short today. We had to be in bus stop at the early morning. With public bus we tried to go to Nazareth. We visited the church of annunciation and St. Joseph church. At the greek orthodox church was today a procession, i couldn’t get in there (too many people). Afternoon we had a dialogue with an Imam from White mosque. He told us about moslem live in Nazareth. We went also back home with a public bus, it took 2 hours to be back at home again. For dinner we had a barbeque. 

10th Day – Haifa, Akko

Early in the morning taxi took us to go to Haifa. We had an appointment with “Elias Chacour”. He is Archbishop of Melkite Greek Catholic church. He is an arabic christian Israel, who built the Mar Elias Education Institute. We had a wonderful dialogue with him and can understand better about the situation of Palestinian in Israel. He also wrote a book “Blood Brother” and “We belong to the land”. This book ist a true story about him as a Palestinian christian, who working for peace in Israel. More about him can you see here. Then we visited Baha’i World Center. Baha’i is the youngest religion in the world and founded in 1844. You can read about Baha’i faith here. After we are finish with Haifa, we took the train to go to Akko. Akko is an old harbour city on Mediterranean Sea. Some of us rode a boat to see the city from the Sea. I lost my sunglasses here. Damn!! But it was also a special experience there. We arrived back at our house late at night and had a new experience dinner with Artichoke. 

11th Day – Relaxing day

Today was a relaxing day. We could do everything what we wanted to do. Some of us rode a bicycle along the shore of sea Genesareth, some of us went to another city. I started my day with Breakfast and then help the Benedictine with working and cleaning on the garden. Like they said “Ora et Labora”. Afternoon I spent my tim with reading book under sunshine and swam in the “Swim drain”. At night we had a last Mess before we finished our Journey. 

Last Day – Tel Aviv, Departure

Early in the morning we had a Breakfast and cleaned up the house. Taxi took us to Tel Aviv. We planned to traveling around Tel Aviv before we fly back to Germany. But we had a problem with our luggage, we didn’t have any place to save the luggage. Because of security reason you can store you luggage nowhere in Israel. We decided to wait and relaxing in the Park in Tel Aviv, because afternoon we had an appointment with a German radio journalist (ARD) to have a dialogue. I and some of friends went to the strand of mediterranean sea, to see the famous promenade of Tel Aviv strand. The dialogue with the journalist was also interesting, he told us much about the political situation at Gaza strip, west bank, etc. We were very exhausted because we had to take all of our baggage with us everywhere we go. After the dialogue we decided to take a dinner an go directly to the Airport. Our plane was 1.30 am in the morning. In my opinion, the security check for check in was to extreme, i think it was to much and unnecessary. It took 2 hours until we finished with check in and got our boarding pass. It was exhausting. 

It was a wonderful journey i ever had. I got a lot of thing to learn, about Palestinian and Israel, Religion living between religions and many others. Message i got from the journey was “We are actually believe in one God, so we should tolerate each other, and live in Peace”. Shalom.
